More Equalization
Each Mixbus32C channel strip incorporates an exact emulation of the original 32C parametric four-band sweepable EQ with a separately switchable filter section including second order high-pass and low-pass filters. Every resistor, capacitor, and transistor was modeled. To run this complex DSP on every channel strip was impossible just 5 years ago.

Slap Bass was sampled from a Fender Jazz electric bass guitar with Carvin J99 pickups and DR Hi-Beam bass strings directly into a Radial Pro48 DI Box. An extended range was obtained by tuning the E-string all the way down to a C. The low B (B0) of a standard 5-string bass was omitted do to “floppiness” from down-tuning. “Slap” and “pop” articulations were carefully and meticulously recorded for each note, although in the extreme upper range of the bass, do to tension of the string, normal notes starts to become indistinguishable from a pop articulations. Regular notes were recorded with a guitar pick, in order to maintain a semi-percussive and metallic sound.

Regular pick notes were recorded in 5 note round-robin with 4 velocity layers. The velocity layers themselves don’t have much of a dynamic range (between -7 -1 dB), as bass guitars are typically compressed signals that end up somewhat level in modern recordings. Slap articulations are 5 turn round-robin, but exist as one velocity layer. The decision was made to simply pick the best representations of a slap or pop sound, rather than mix in many different sounds, in order to achieve a “better” sounding vst instrument as opposed to a more “realistic” one.

Bass strings were periodically cleaned with denatured alcohol, as the metallic Hi-Beam sound tends to darken rather quickly. Pains were taken to ensure that the transition in tone between strings was minimized by selecting the best places to start sampling a new string. One octave of harmonics was achieved by selecting the best harmonic tones and tuning/detuning strings around these notes, thus it would be impossible to recreate these harmonics on a standard-tuned bass, but they do sound cool.

Slides were recorded for most strings, but were ommited for things like open strings, or when sliding down or up would overshoot standard tuning. Major Thirds and Perfect Fifths were chosen for the sake of usability. Slides were recorded at a tempo of 120 BPM.

Improvements since last version:
– *Mac Au/VST versions now conform to OS X Catalina code signing and notarization requirements.
– *Mac versions are now installed via package installers.
– *Resources for Mac versions and a config file are now placed outside of the vst and component bundles. This is because Apple wants things code-signed now: verifying resources in a bundle would – take too long and the config can’t be inside because it would invalidate the code signature. If you don’t like it, complain to Apple!
– *Maintaining separate legacy (32-bit) Mac versions for those who need them (OS X 10.9-10.14)

We are proud to announce LASS First Chair 2 (LASS FC 2), one of the 2 reduced sound sets of LASS Full 2‘s library. LASS FC 2 features solo instruments performed by the section leaders. Rather than sounding like “guest soloists,” these instruments sound like the first chair players they actually are, blending perfectly with the sections they came from. While LASS FC 2 does not include LASS Full 2′s ARC (AB Remote Control), all of LASS FC 2′s patches are the same as LASS Full’s “First Chair” patches… with the exception of not including LASS Full’s Stage and Color features. However, we did add a taste of our new Color technology to LASS FC 2. There is a new “Color” button that lets you use our Bat Man Color profile. Pre-programmed Multis are included so you can simply load them up and play!!

Here are some new features the LASS 2 update includes (LASS Lite 2 and FC 2’s features are in green — LASS Full 2 has all the features):

  • •New exclusive reverb Impulse Responses. We’ve included a single Color Profile (Bat Man) from LASS Full 2 that you can enjoy. Pre-built Multis are already set up for you.
  • •Legato Tremolo patches

We include the 24 bit files since it will be about 30% less taxing on your hard drive than a 24 .wav file. We noticed no measurable CPU hit using the NCW files… and we did a lot of testing.

The main difference between LASS FC 2 and the full version is that LASS FC 2 does not contain the Divisi Sections or the Full mix patches or the ARC (AB Remote Control — a LASS Full 2.0 feature only). The chart below shows what patches and articulations come with LASS FC 2. All the “blue” patches come with LASS Lite 2 (the “green” are for LASS FC 2 and everything else is included in the full version of LASS).

LASS FC 2 is a Kontakt based sample library and runs on Kontakt 5.02 or Kontakt Player 5.02. Kontakt Player 5 is available as a free download from Native Instruments’ website.

Whats the difference between LASS FC 2 and LASS FULL 2 ?
While LASS FC 2 offers you first chair (solo) patches, it does not contain the divisi ensemble patches or the “Full Mix” patches. Nor does it include the ARC (AB Remote Control) which is a LASS Full 2.0 feature only. However, the patches included in LASS Lite work exactly the same way as the same patches in the full version of LASS (minus the ARC)… there is no difference in the patch functionality. You still get the great ART script and Auto Arranger script and every other script that comes with the full version of LASS… just not the divisi or first chair patches or the Stage & Color feature.

SPAN Plus is a real-time “fast Fourier transform” audio spectrum analyzer plug-in for professional music and audio production applications. For the most part it was derived from GlissEQ dynamic parametric equalizer and reproduces its spectrum analysis functionality. SPAN Plus is an extended version of the freeware SPAN plug-in: SPAN Plus provides several additional features such as PNG file export, real-time spectrum import/export and static spectrums display. SPAN Plus provides you with a very flexible “mode” system which you can use to setup your spectrum analyzer preferences. You may specify Fourier block size in samples, FFT window overlap percentage, spectrum’s visual slope. Beside that you can choose to display secondary spectrum of a desired type (e.g. real-time maximum, all-time maximum). Spectrum can be smoothed out visually for an easier examination.

SPAN Plus supports multi-channel analysis and can be set to display spectrums from two different channels or channel groups at the same time. Spectrum’s color can be chosen to taste. SPAN Plus also features output level metering with adjustable ballistics and integration time, K-metering (including calibration K-metering). SPAN Plus displays level metering statistics, headroom estimation and clipping detection. Correlation metering is available as well

More Equalization
Each Mixbus32C channel strip incorporates an exact emulation of the original 32C parametric four-band sweepable EQ with a separately switchable filter section including second order high-pass and low-pass filters. Every resistor, capacitor, and transistor was modeled. To run this complex DSP on every channel strip was impossible just 5 years ago.

Slap Bass was sampled from a Fender Jazz electric bass guitar with Carvin J99 pickups and DR Hi-Beam bass strings directly into a Radial Pro48 DI Box. An extended range was obtained by tuning the E-string all the way down to a C. The low B (B0) of a standard 5-string bass was omitted do to “floppiness” from down-tuning. “Slap” and “pop” articulations were carefully and meticulously recorded for each note, although in the extreme upper range of the bass, do to tension of the string, normal notes starts to become indistinguishable from a pop articulations. Regular notes were recorded with a guitar pick, in order to maintain a semi-percussive and metallic sound.

Regular pick notes were recorded in 5 note round-robin with 4 velocity layers. The velocity layers themselves don’t have much of a dynamic range (between -7 -1 dB), as bass guitars are typically compressed signals that end up somewhat level in modern recordings. Slap articulations are 5 turn round-robin, but exist as one velocity layer. The decision was made to simply pick the best representations of a slap or pop sound, rather than mix in many different sounds, in order to achieve a “better” sounding vst instrument as opposed to a more “realistic” one.

Bass strings were periodically cleaned with denatured alcohol, as the metallic Hi-Beam sound tends to darken rather quickly. Pains were taken to ensure that the transition in tone between strings was minimized by selecting the best places to start sampling a new string. One octave of harmonics was achieved by selecting the best harmonic tones and tuning/detuning strings around these notes, thus it would be impossible to recreate these harmonics on a standard-tuned bass, but they do sound cool.

Slides were recorded for most strings, but were ommited for things like open strings, or when sliding down or up would overshoot standard tuning. Major Thirds and Perfect Fifths were chosen for the sake of usability. Slides were recorded at a tempo of 120 BPM.

– *Mac Au/VST versions now conform to OS X Catalina code signing and notarization requirements.
– *Mac versions are now installed via package installers.
– *Resources for Mac versions and a config file are now placed outside of the vst and component bundles. This is because Apple wants things code-signed now: verifying resources in a bundle would – take too long and the config can’t be inside because it would invalidate the code signature. If you don’t like it, complain to Apple!
– *Maintaining separate legacy (32-bit) Mac versions for those who need them (OS X 10.9-10.14)
