VirtualDJ is a DJ software for PC and MAC. It is used by DJs to replace their turntables and CD players, and use digital music instead of vinyl and CDs. Limited-Z dynamically combines several unique limiting algorithms to provide transparent limiting on all audio sources. Limited-Z is based on  full-featured mastering limiter, Limited-MAX. It includes many of the underlying limiting processing engines, while simplifying the user interface. This includes a special customized variable clipping algorithm based on ClipShifter. The result is a mastering limiter that is both configurable and useful, without a significant learning curve. Internally, Limited-Z includes attack and release controls, look-ahead, stereo linking, program-dependent release timing, dynamic EQ, and DC filtering; however, these internal settings are packaged into several unique limiter modes.

Although Limited-Z is a designed to be easy to use, it includes many standard and useful features. This includes an output meter including VU-style, PPM-style, and loudness metering; waveform history display with RMS; adjustable scale for all metering; AutoGain control (for auditioning the sound of the limiter without volume changes); undo/redo history; and A/B comparison controls.

The paid version of Limited-Z adds the following features:
– Selectable secondary metering that includes Input Level, estimated Distortion Level, and ISP meter
– K-Metering of input and output levels
– Linear-phase oversampling (2x, 4x, or 8x)

ClipShifter is a clipping-style limiter that provides enough user controls to be useful in all mixing stages. ClipShifter uses a unique threshold control to change the clipping threshold dynamically based on the transient characteristics of the incoming audio. The sonic characteristics of the clipping distortion can be altered from hard, brickwall-style clipping, to softer saturation with compression. Additional parameters allow the user to control the even- and odd-order components of the saturation.

Clip, Compress, Distort, or Limit: you get to choose
ClipShifter is a wave-shaping audio plugin that functions like a clipping-style limiter. It provides enough user controls to be useful in all mixing stages: from distorting basses and drums, to maximizing mix buses and warming-up overall mixes. The sonic characteristics of the clipping distortion can be altered from hard, brickwall-style clipping, to softer saturation with compression.

Dynamic Control
ClipShifter can function as a static clipping effect, but it can also respond to the transient qualities of the incoming signal. The threshold for clipping can be set to either rise or fall as the level of audio increases. The speed can be set using the Attack Time control and the Fast Release button. Let the transients through while distorting the rest, or distort that initial bass thump while letting the rest sound clean. A new feature in version 2.2 is the independent Left/Right (or Mid/Side) Threshold Control. Choose between Independent, Maximum, or Average to determine how the the clipping thresholds dynamically change.

Dial-in the sound of your choice, from heavy distortion to subtle compression
ClipShifter includes controls to change the clip shape and to adjust the harmonic content. Setting the Clip Shape control to maximum produces a hard-clipped sound, while lesser settings verge on subtle compression with minimal auditory distortion. The harmonics control allows you to control the amount of even-order and odd-order distortion.

Choose your frequencies (paid feature)
The multiband crossover gives you finer control. The revised 3-band crossover controls lets you pick which frequencies are processed, and which frequencies are passed through to the output. Each of the three frequencies can be processed independently for maximum versatility. For example, you can choose to process the middle band without processing the hi or low frequencies. The Gain Select control determines if you want the EQ gains to be applied before clipping, after clipping, or as a SideChain effect (i.e., increases and decreases of gain are nullified post processing).

Oversampling & Doubling (paid feature)
Oversampling improves the audio quality on maximum-clipped sounds. For many digital effects, oversampling improves the audio by reducing aliasing effects. ClipShifter internally filters and processes audio at 2X, 4X, or 8X the sample rate to reduce aliasing artifacts. The Double feature processes that entire audio through the clipping algorithm an additional time. This prevents any “overs” (when using ClipShifter as a brickwall limiter) and also alters the harmonic content of the output.

Mid/Side Processing (paid feature)
Similarly to the multiband frequency control, ClipShifter 2.2 allows you to process stereo information separately through the clipping algorithm. The revised M/S controls provide independent clipping processing to the Mid and Side channels. Controls for Gain and Width lets you tailor the output of ClipShifter to the desired depth of stereo field.

With the multitude of varying flavors of FRFR solutions, these will help you get where you’re going faster either used by themselves, or as an additional blend element in your IR mix recipe. The Live n Loud subset offers much fuller and smoother sounding captures to better suit high playback volumes and the inherent high frequency push that comes with it. Every primary mic has 4 entries in the Live n Loud set, each representing the voicings listed above.

Studio Pro Captures
The Studio Pro captures are a mind meld collaborative effort between Kevin Rowe (OwnHammer) and world renown engineer, producer, and song writer Kato Khandwala. These cabinet capture configurations can be heard on numerous gold and platinum selling albums, and are combined with the position and voicing alterations of the OwnHammer methodology for added flavor and diversity. 5 positions in the OwnHammer brighter to darker scheme with the same 4 voicings as the Primary Captures are provided in the following manners:

The Lowender plug-in is a subharmonic synthesizer reminiscent of classic analog dual-band bass enhancer circuits. More than a simple EQ, the Lowender creates new bass content from your existing audio material. From post-production houses to disco floors, from high-powered live sound to rock, dub, and metal studio productions, the characteristic rumble of the subharmonic synthesizer has been an engineer’s best-kept secret for years. Now, finally, you can get those low lows from within your favorite DAW application!.


While taking the classic “Boom Box” sound as its core, the Lowender expands on the concept in several ways. First, it offers switchable frequency ranges, so that the low end frequencies generated can be selected to fit the program material.

Second, the generated subharmonics pass through a gate tailored for low frequencies, which is useful for cleaning up unwanted bass rumble (e.g. from between kick drum hits in a drum loop).

Third, the Lowender passes the bass material through an output section comprised of an overdrive circuit and a lowpass filter. Driving or compressing the newly generated low frequencies is essential for evening out their dynamics, and will allow them to sit well in a mix. The variable lowpass filter is provided to shave off the higher harmonics of the overdrive and create a smooth low end – or you can leave some of them in, for raspier bass sounds.

We’re proud to present to you: Arena 5.0. This new major release focusses on video mapping in Arena. It brings zooming. Undo/redo. Slice masking. Poly slices. DMX fixture output. BlackMagic capture device output. Spout. And much much more, read the full release notes on the blog. It’s been 4 years since we introduced Avenue & Arena 4. In those 4 years we released many many updates which brought a lot of improvements, effects and new features. It was time for something new, and we are proud to present to you: Arena 5.

We looked at the most important features that needed to be improved and this was clearly video mapping in Arena. Video mapping has taken the world by storm the past few years. We wanted to make this even easier and even more flexible with Arena 5. With Arena you can take on any size mapping project. Projecting on DJ booths and cars and buildings, as well as pixel mapping giant stages like Ultra. Projection mapping has gone from an artsy curiosity to a requirement in the toolbox of all VJ’s.

Zoooooomin
With stages becoming bigger and LED resolutions going up it’s now easier to get everything pixel perfect by zooming in to your slices as far you need to make the final adjustment.

Undo (yes really)
In the advanced output you can now undo (and redo) all your actions. This is incredibly handy because video mapping can become quite complex and is not always an exact science. Sometimes you need to fiddle the sliders until it’s pixel perfect. You can now work on a complex mapping with the ease of mind that you can always go back in time, like Doc & Marty.

Polygon slices (poly what?)
This new way of video mapping is so innovative we even had to think of a name for it ;-) We’re calling them Poly Slices. Draw any shape you want and then warp each individual point. Triangles were just the beginning, young grasshopper

Snapping
Slices and points will jump into place when they get close enough. So you don’t need to find that sweet spot twice.

Slice masks
You can now apply a mask to one specific slice by using the new input masking. You can even draw your own shape from scratch.
